Inspiration: Lables

Click this picture to visit Vector and buy some labels, because thats where this picture came from.

"Maybe if we stopped using labels they wouldn't be such a big deal."

It makes me excited when I see headlines like "Trans woman cast in next big movie" or "First bisexual woman as a main character in a cartoon on a kids channel". It means change is not only coming slowly, its in some ways already here. It also makes me sad. Because the more I learn about the bleak history of the past, the more I can't wrap my head around why did it have to come to this in the first place? Why is it bad to be different?

Labels divide things and organize them into categories and define what an object is. People aren't objects and yet we continue to use that system as if we are. We use our diverse and unique traits as "labels" to "categorize" us in the best possible way. But all labels are different and are not created equal. Afterall, what happens when you label that old wrapper of yours? Trash. What has happened to me when I greet a guest and see my label as 'The Help' written in their eyes; I feel like trash.

I can't wrap my head around war because I've never been a part of it first hand but I feel like war is coming. Because a group of people decided to try and conquer a land that didn't belong to them and succeeded. And that success has created so much hatred and greed woven into the foundation of this country that I sometimes wonder if it's beyond repair. If people stopped defining us by our labels and tried to understand one another, there wouldn't be a need for war. If we could see the beauty in the people around us and didn't feel the need to be superior, maybe we could all actually live a life worth living instead of the elite few getting to live extravagantly. But that is not reality.

It may be naive to think that a world without labels would be a peaceful time and probably a boring one at that. An unobtainable utopia I guess. But I still won't give up and try to be worthy of one day helping the world move in the right direction and towards a more just society where we are no longer divided and there might actually be liberty and justice for all.

Sooooooo next week I'll be in California so I might not write any word vomit or I'll write so much word vomit because im uber inspired. Either way see you next week!
