Click this photo to listen to the epic song that inspired this piece of word vomit today and future ideas for future things, because that's where this photo came from.
Lela stood on the cracked rooftop, the embers burning her nose and she put her mask up farther. The world was on fire. Everything that Lela had ever known was crumbling around her. She was a lone girl on a rooftop. She glanced up and saw Lucas waving at her from the balcony above her. Their apartment. Lela fumbles with the walkie on her hip and wrangles it free from her belt loop.
“What the hell are you doing?” she yelled.
“Looking for you!” his voice crackled through the speaker, “Mom told us to meet back here.”
“Well get out of there. That building looks like its going to collapse any minute.”
“I’m on my way.”
Lucas disappears from view and Lela sighs, changing the channel, “Seth, please tell me your on the ground.”
“If by ground you mean Ms. Mehavins rooftop, then sure.”
Lela cracked a smile, “Well sidewalks are for boring people anyway.”
A piercing screech broke their banter as thick sheets of metal burst out of the ground. The apartment building explodes in a shower of debris and Lela felt the world fall around her as the roof caved beneath her from the aftershock. She hit hard and the world was an endless blur of swirling greys and browns. A face comes into her view, franticly digging around her.
For those of you that know me as a writer, these characters have been haunting me since the 10th grade! Still haven't found the right story I'm trying to tell I guess. Oh well. On to the next one! Let's see what epic tomorrow brings!
