Happy Juneteenth yall!
I felt compelled this morning to talk a little bit about black and life. Those words have been cycling alot so we may have lost sight of their meaning. I'm here to bring back some clarity. So lets start with black.
Black is a color. Simple as that. You see it in an inky black night sky or the tarp of a backyard grill. It holds value of making things bolder and highlighting or shadowing, depending what kind of picture your painting.
Then there's life.
The precious baby's first cry is life. The flower blooming with the morning sun is life. That moment is so sacred and precious we do anything to protect it. We all feel compelled to protect it.
Words loose meaning the more we use them, and if we misuse them the narrative can get twisted and a game of telephone begins.
Juneteenth is a day of learning and celebration. It isn't about politics or religion or capital. It is about history and understanding.
My school sent out an email today with links to different sources to learn and understand more about this day in history. I have linked them below so you can enjoy them as well.
I write all this to say, black is a color and life is precious. If we all agree to that simple fact, why does the pigment in our skin define how we overcome living in a country that didn't really start out in the best way (HUGE understatement but stay with me here). I hope that today we take five minutes out of our day to really understand what today is about and come a little bit closer together as a human race. Or we could just all go on hating and misunderstanding. Ya know, no pressure. I leave you with the links I promised below and I hope this inspired you, made you laugh, or at the very least curious enough to make it to the end. Until next time yall :)
Also, if you have any links of your own you want to share below to keep the knowledge flowing about Juneteenth (PLEASE FACT CHECK YOUR SHIT) go forth and post! I'd also love to see word vomit about my random inspiration Black and Life. Can't wait!
