Chapter 4: A Bestie

Master Prahsehss's Story

Pain. That's the last thing I remember before waking up next to Prehp in the cave. I vaguely sensed that we were connected somehow, but I have no idea if that's true. I don't even know how I know this guy's name is Prehp. It's not like he's wearing a nametag while he lies sleeping. I vaguely sense someone watching us, but I can't seem to look away from this guy. Who is he? And why am I so infatuated with everything about him?

Also, why is everything so vague? I'm someone who likes clarity, darnit! Clarity and cheese fries. Whatever those are. Anyway, I guess I should see who's been staring at us this whole time. The moment I see their dark skin and wide eyes, I already know.

“Your Master,” I tilt my head. “Why do I know that? Who are you? Where am I?”

“I'll explain in a moment, but first. Are you in any pain?”

“No, why?”

Because you kept murmuring pain over and over once you came into existence.”

Came into existence? Like, born? I guess that makes sense since I seem to have that new baby smell. But that still doesn't clarify how I just automatically know things. And then it hits me.

“So, I'm a robot?”

Master's laugh is loud. Like an obnoxious snort, loud.

So loud that Prehp wakes up with a grumbled “Must you be so loud, brother?” and steals my heart away. Even his grumbles are like music.

“Sorry,” Master smirks. “I was just chatting it up with your wife here.”

The moment we lock eyes, I know what they say is true. Everything about him is familiar yet new. A brown man who reminds me of chocolate from his hands to his eyes to his hair.

He observes me in fascination, propping himself up on his elbow before tenderly caressing my cheek.

“I found you,” he sighs. “Welcome to our world, Prahsehss.”

It was the happiest I had ever been. And then things started to get stupid. Like annoyingly stupid. My body not only looks and acts differently from the others, but Prehp won't stop staring at me. I'm glad when the mysterious eyes in the bushes finally gave me a cute outfit that wasn't long, sacred robes.

I also learned that my wing is basically useless, although I think it's sweet that Prehp sacrificed flying just to bring me here. I just wish that I could have another girl to hang with. Prehp is such a boy, and Master's, well, I wouldn't really picture my homebody brother enjoying any of my activities. It's not like I don't enjoy their company, but- The wind kicks up, and a few yellow petals fly on the breeze. I watch as they dance with the leaves of the trees and seem to grow brighter. Lighter.

It becomes so bright that I have to look away. But then the wind stops, and the mystical light fades, and I'm able to see someone dangling in the branches. Her skin is as dark as night, and her curls cascade down her back. I'm so fascinated by her arrival that I don't notice I'm gawking until she narrows her eyes and huffs.

“Hello? Little help here?”
