We've organized this list by the quarters of the year you should be focused on these opportunities, as these application processes vary from program to program and cannot be done at the last minute. We don't share any affiliation with any of the following organizations, and do not receive revenue for showcasing their website link on-planet.

The NWP is a Development Program for kids & family TV comedy writers with unique perspectives.

WBD Access Writers Program

The Warner Bros. Discovery Access Writers Program provides a pathway for writers seeking to enhance their skills in the episodic television writing space, learn about the business of television from executives and industry guests, and attend a master class on storytelling and collaborative creative writing.

The Beebe Fund for Musicians

The Frank Huntington Beebe Fund for Musicians was established in 1932 under the terms of the will of Frank Huntington Beebe, a Boston philanthropist interested in music. The purpose of the Fund is to provide fellowships for gifted young musicians, generally performers and composers in classical disciplines, who wish to pursue advanced music study and performance abroad, usually in Europe.

Disney Entertainment Television Writing Program

The Disney Entertainment Television (DET) Writing Program is a highly selective, annual TV staffing program. The goal is to staff emerging and diverse television writers on DET scripted series. Program Writers are contract employees of Disney for one year (or until they staff on a show), and receive mentorship, professional development, and unprecedented access to the company and its creative executives, producers, showrunners, and program alumni.

Jacob’s Pillow Choreographic Residencies

The Pillow Lab is a residency program that supports dance artists during crucial development, research, and technical stages of choreography-driven projects, and offers the opportunity to work in the Pillow’s retreat-like atmosphere, regenerative landscape, and state-of-the-art studio spaces.

Sundance Institute Episodic Lab

The Sundance Institute Episodic Program provides artists with the tools and training to develop their original series and pilot script. Offering one of the few training grounds for independent voices, the program is designed to help creators move their projects and careers forward.

Wallace Stegner Fellowship (Stanford)

Unique among writing programs, Stanford University offers 10 two-year fellowships each year, 5 in fiction and 5 in poetry. All the fellows in each genre convene weekly in a 3-hour workshop with faculty.

Academy Gold Fellowship for Women

The Academy Gold Fellowship for Women is designed to inspire emerging women filmmakers. In addition to fellowship support, it also includes personalized mentorship and access to once-in-a-lifetime networking opportunities now and into the future.

Currently, alumni of Academy Gold programs who identify as women, as well as Gold Rising partner company nominees, are eligible to apply.

DreamWorks Early Careers & LAUNCH Fellowship

DreamWorks offers students and recent grads the opportunity to work alongside artists and storytellers in TV and Feature Animation. Interns take a deep dive into real productions, learn the 2D & CG pipeline and get a taste for what it is like to work in a creative environment. Internships are offered annually, three times a year in the Spring, Summer and Fall. Open to students and recent grads (recent grads should apply within the six month window post graduation), Internships are paid, 10 weeks long, and are offered remotely and/or on a hybrid basis, depending on the department. BalletX Choreographic Fellowship

Launched in 2016 with lead support from the Wyncote Foundation, BalletX’s Choreographic Fellowship unites one emerging artist each season with a distinguished choreographer who serves as a mentor as they both create World Premieres on the BalletX dancers. As one of the only programs in the nation that focuses on choreographic development in ballet, the Fellowship strengthens BalletX’s mission by prioritizing the creation of new works by new voices.

The Open Notebook Fellowship

The Open Notebook offers a paid, part-time fellowship program for early-career science journalists. During the course of this fellowship, fellows work with a mentor to plan, report, and write articles for publication at The Open Notebook and become part of the TON editorial team. This one-year program offers fellows the opportunity to explore their career interests and passions and to sharpen their skills as part of a talented, supportive, diverse community of past and present fellows and mentors.

Film Independent Project Involve

For 30 years and counting, Project Involve has been Film Independent's most vital and impactful program. We're proud to be a leader in the ongoing mission to build a more inclusive and equitable industry by supporting emerging filmmakers from communities underrepresented in film and entertainment.

USC Games / Indie Incubator

We are the premier center for experimental game design research at USC. Founded in 2004, the lab is directed by Professor Tracy Fullerton. The mission of the lab is to pursue experimental design of games in cultural realms including art, science, politics and learning.

PEN America Emerging Voices Fellowship

The Emerging Voices Fellowship provides a virtual five-month immersive mentorship program for early-career writers from communities that are traditionally underrepresented in the publishing world. The program is committed to cultivating the careers of Black writers, and serves writers who identify as Indigenous, persons of color, LGBTQ+, immigrants, writers with disabilities, and those living outside of urban centers. Through curated one-on-one mentorship and introductions to editors, agents, and publishers, in addition to workshops on editing, marketing, and creating a platform, the five-month fellowship nurtures creative community, provides a professional skill-set, and demystifies the path to publication—with the ultimate goal of diversifying the publishing and media industries.

Game Devs of Color Expo & Grants

Apply to the Game Devs of Color Expo

The Jerome Hill Artist Fellowship supports early career artists based in Minnesota and New York City who are working in and across multiple artistic fields, including dance; film; literature; music; technology centered arts; theater, performance, and spoken word; and visual arts.

Jerome Foundation seeks to serve artists who take creative risks in exploring, expanding, imagining, or re-imagining creative practices and experiences; reclaiming or reviving traditional forms in original ways; and/or questioning, challenging, or disrupting cultural norms.

New Music USA Creator Fund

The New Music Creator Fund offers grants to individual music creators to reach the next stage of their creative practice.  The program supports costs that relate to the development of new and existing ideas and projects, collaboration with other artists and practitioners, and any activities that help creators realize their goals, including childcare costs, technical assistance/skills building, and more.

Walt Disney Animation Studios Internship

Disney Interns receive hands-on, real-world work experience in a specific field of study. They have the opportunity to work on Emmy Award-winning shows, play a part in creating beloved films, assist in projects that reach sports fans around the world or bring smiles to guests worldwide.

ABT Incubator

ABT Incubator is a choreographic program providing a focused lab to generate and inspire ideas for the creation of new work. Open to ABT dancers and outside choreographers chosen through an audition process, ABT Incubator provides participants with resources to explore and experiment as choreographers with dancers from American Ballet Theatre.

The Sloan Foundation Film School Grants

To influence the next generation of filmmakers to tackle science and technology themes and characters, increase visibility for feature films that depict this subject matter, and develop new work that can be produced and released theatrically.

ProPublica Fellowships

ProPublica offers a variety of fellowships throughout the year, ranging anywhere from three months to a year. All of them are paid positions. Some of these fellowships are offered only occasionally, others are recurring. Because our fellowships do not always have a fixed end date, there is no regular schedule, but we do keep this page updated with the current status of all of our fellowships.

The Sundance / Science Sandbox Nonfiction Initiative

The Sandbox Fund offers grants, engagement events, and other opportunities for independent artists seeking to explore the intrinsic link between science and culture through innovative storytelling. The program is administered by the Sundance Institute Documentary Fund, in collaboration with Sandbox Films.

Women in Animation (WIA) Mentorship

The WIA Mentorship Program connects people of underrepresented gender identities at all professional levels to dedicated mentors who can help them achieve the next steps in their careers.

Over 500 creatives annually are paired with veteran industry professionals to bolster careers and confidence. By providing high-quality, consistent learning opportunities and tools for members to advance their overall careers, WIA is actively tearing down the barriers faced by creatives of underrepresented gender identities within the industry.

WIA Mentors volunteer their time and are working professionals from a broad range of disciplines including writing, directing, producing, editing, storyboarding, and more.

Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting

The Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting is a vital program that identifies and nurtures talented emerging screenwriters.

The program will now exclusively partner with global university programs, screenwriting labs and filmmaker programs to identify potential Nicholl fellows.

Each partner will vet and submit scripts for consideration for an Academy Nicholl Fellowship. The Black List and the Writers Guild Foundation will serve as portals for public submissions.

All scripts submitted by partners will be read and reviewed by Academy members.

Ted Scripps Fellowships in Environmental Journalism

Are you a journalist ready to take your career to the next level? Come spend a year at the University of Colorado as a Ted Scripps Fellow. You’ll deepen your understanding of environmental issues, hone your craft, and enjoy a break from deadlines while living at the foot of the Rocky Mountains.

As a fellow, you’ll audit classes and pursue an independent project of your own design. You’ll also attend weekly seminars and participate in field trips to world-renowned institutions to learn what’s new in the realm of environmental science and policy.

Q4(October-December)

Riot Games Thunderdome

It’s a chance to fix something. It’s a great way to unlock creativity. Hell, it’s just plain fun. Ask ten people and you may get ten different answers. But what’s important to note is that the reason we Thunderdome is not to ship a bunch of new things directly to our games. That doesn’t mean we won’t– because Thunderdome has absolutely led to some really cool things. [We have not found any news on this returning in the near future]
