Disclaimer: This article mentions trauma/suicidal thoughts that may be triggering to some readers. This article or the mini-course discussing chakras is not a replacement for a proper mental health diagnosis or professional therapy. If you or someone you know is suffering from severe depression, anxiety, or other serious feelings/thoughts of suicide, please contact a local healthcare professional for proper treatment. Also, here is a virtual hug, because that sh*t is not easy.

When did we start believing that our physical, mental, and spiritual health is unimportant? Why is therapy so laughable to the ones that need it the most? And someone please explain to me when we started glazing over our frail mental health as nothing more than a constant joke?

As a planet and a species, we are walking around in a daze of depression and anxiety. We're hoping that the weekend will fix our problems, and, for the moment, we feel a spit of peace and freedom until Monday rolls around once more. This toxic cycle is how we end up stuffing "the really bad emotional stuff we don't have time for" in the closet behind the broken Christmas lights and end up believing that getting run over by the rich is a foolproof way to pay off debt.

The amount of death jokes I hear from my peers is jarring and I don't even blame them. This world is one large dumpster fire right now and our inner lives are suffering because of it. I've caught myself wishing for death like a sweet release and tempting fate by throwing out ideas for the universe to follow. It's borderline psychotic that we have this swirling dialogue within us. There's an imbalance that isn't being acknowledged and no amount of consuming Hollywood media or social content is going to fix it.

WE NEED TO ACKNOWLEDGE OUR EMOTIONAL GOOK. TODAY!

So, let's take a deep breath, get a sip of water, and slowly suspend our beliefs as we dive into an overview of our seven main chakras. If you are interested in a deeper dive into this subject, I recommend taking a look at my mini-course on Chakra Basics.

The Seven Chakras By Storyteller Planet

What are Chakras?

To put it simply, our bodies are made up of energy, and the seven main chakras are the specific "energy centers" that run along the length of our spine. They are described to look like flowers and rotate in a clockwise motion. Each chakra has its own properties including color, speed of rotation, amount of petals, and association with the physical body. Like the growth of a tree, it's best to work through the knowledge of the chakras from bottom to top. So, let's dive into the individual aspects of each chakra, starting with the roots.

Root Chakra by Storyteller Planet

Root Chakra (Muldahara)

Located at the base of our spine in between our hips, our root chakra focuses on trust, survival, and physical security. It can become clouded by fear and trauma, giving us a sense of panic and overthinking as we carry on throughout life. Its bright red color encourages us to be patient, practical, and embrace life’s experiences. Otherwise, we might find ourselves becoming ridged, depressed, and pessimistic all the time. Take a moment to ground yourself in the present moment and take a lesson from the strongest trees nature can offer. Stand strong in your roots and flow with what the wind hits you with.

Sacral Chakra By Storyteller Planet

Sacral Chakra (Swadisthana)

Located just below the belly button, our sacral chakra focuses on our sexuality, creativity, and personal expression. Our feelings of guilt can cloud this energy and give us a sense of fear, addiction, and a loss of imagination. The orange-colored light has a water-like quality that absorbs and distributes energy to the rest of the body, making it an important energy source. It encourages us to activate our senses and express compassion to those around us. Instead of giving into false feelings of overconfidence or even co-dependency with others, we can learn to create a deeper understanding of ourselves by expressing an immense amount of self-love. This way, we can better filter out life’s problems through compassion while, at the same time, protecting our true self-image and allowing unconditional love to flow out from our whole being.

Solar Plexus Chakra By Storyteller Planet

The Solar Plexus (Manipura)

Located a few inches above the belly button, our solar plexus chakra focuses on our truest self which is expressed through our inner wisdom, personal power, and ability to choose. A deep sense of shame and emotional imbalance can cloud this energy and give us a sense of low self-esteem, high insecurities, fear of control, and severe procrastination. Our solar plexus is where the essence of our Root and Sacral chakras come together to figure out who we are at our core. We are encouraged by the bright yellow light to burn away those insecurities swirling inside of us with the fire of independence, self-confidence, and a healthy amount of self-discipline. Cultivate that inner fire and get in the habit of tapping into those gut feelings more often. Like the sun, you are destined to shine from the inside out.

Heart Chakra By Storyteller Planet

Heart Chakra (Anahata)

Located in the center of our chest, our heart chakra is "the avatar" of the body and connects our body and spirit through love, healing, forgiveness, and compassion. As to be expected when talking about the heart, our heart chakra can be blocked by deep emotional pain/grief, stress, negative programming from "the early years" of our lives, and unresolved grudges. This leads to trust issues, commitment issues, extreme shyness, lack of intimacy, and the inability to forgive others in order to move past prior events. The heart is a messy place and can come with intense positive and negative emotions when thinking about the elements that cloud our heart chakra. Without it, we risk becoming self-indulgent, and vain and we'll constantly feel like we're grasping for love itself. In these times it's important to focus on that emerald green light that encourages us to connect our unique spirit to Mother Earth and The Great Spirit that we all come from. This cultivates feelings of compassion that allow us to love others and ourselves.

Throat Chakra By Storyteller Planet

Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)

Located in the center of our throat, our throat chakra focuses on truth and our ability to communicate it with others through self-expression. The biggest thing that clouds this chakra is lying to others and ourselves. Our bodies will physically tell us if we have a blocked throat chakra through a surprising number of ways such as a stiff neck, soar throat, loss of voice, sinus/ear infections, toothaches, and even headaches. It is important for our ideas and beliefs to be expressed without the worry of what others may think. Like the bright blue waves of the ocean, we must learn to roll with our inner truth and anchor it in everything we say. It is possible for us to become nervous and indecisive when we decide to lie about our truth and this can stunt our ability to grow because we're always afraid we'll make a mistake. Tuning into this chakra means facing our lies and moving beyond our fear so that we can be the most perceptive and diplomatic versions of ourselves.

Third Eye Chakra By Storyteller Planet

Third Eye Chakra (Ajna)

Located in the center of our forehead, our third eye is something that holds the power to see beyond what we see in front of us. It taps into our intuition and focuses on our inner connections and the universe itself. This world has gifted us with "the curse of the illusion", causing us to believe that "we" as a planet are all divided. Our third eye encourages us to think beyond social constructs and asks us to focus on the idea that we are all one. It is easy for us to think we are all that exists and that death is final. Take a look at the deep indigo color and sit in the warm feeling of spiritual connection. This will deepen our relationship with The Self and give us a better ability to determine what is truth and what is an illusion. Only then will we be able to understand our true purpose and see the bigger picture of life itself.

Crown Chakra By Storyteller Planet

Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)

Located at the top of our head, our crown chakra is our direct connection to the divine and focuses on spirituality, our thoughts, and an external sense of "home". It may be the most elusive of the chakras as far as understanding, and that's okay. Our Earthly attachments and our inability to let go/surrender to life itself can give us an extreme disconnect from this part of ourselves. The events that we've experienced at this point may make a lot of us cringe at the thought of "a higher self" or "the great divine". But taking it to a simpler place, this chakra asks us to loosen the chokehold grip of control that we may have on our lives. Accepting that life is something that happens to us instead of something we can control every detail about is a big part of this and can be a hard pill to swallow. This chakra asks us to step away from our world and sit with who we are on a broader scheme. Without the labels, schedules, and people in our lives, who are we? What do we believe in deep down when no one is watching? Do we know what our purpose is? These are all great questions to think about as we continue to expand our minds on one basic concept.

We are one.

Final Thoughts

Understanding the charkas is a lifelong experience and can be an intense and emotional process. If you feel inclined to clear your chakras, I recommend first taking my mini-course on Chakra Basics so you have a deeper understanding of the subject. Now that you are an official chakra novice, you are one step closer to understanding why you are the way you are. Being aware of your chakras sets you up for success and gives you a starting place to bring yourself back into balance. Take it slow, start from the Root Chakra, and work your way up from there. Be kind to yourself in this long healing process. You are worthy of all the light and love in the universe. Be open to receiving it. The rest will follow.

I hope to see you soon in whatever form I appear. Until next time!

Expand Your Mind...

Let's face it, language learning isn't easy. But it can be fun and ultimately unite us across Lahnds and Rehlms. All we have to do is expand our minds. This is easiest understood by those who speak Earth English, but other languages from other places may also understand this language lesson.

Tip #1: Laugh every time you mess up and then try again. Every mistake is an opportunity to learn and grow. Embrace it!
